A Digital Marketer’s Perspective on WordCamp Romania

Beatrice’s experience at WordCamp Romania in Brasov

~ Beatrice here.

I am sure that most of you have interacted with me at least once in the past 4 years 🙂

I had the wonderful opportunity of experiencing WordCamp Romania in Brașov this month. Although I was at two WordCamp Europe (Athens in 2023 and Torino in 2024), this one was different.

Surrounded by the vibrant local WordPress community (Slavic and Balkan) , I learned a lot about what WpStream is doing right—and where we need to improve.

What I Learned

1️⃣ Listening is Key: Through candid conversations, I realized we need to engage more deeply with our users to truly understand their pain points and expectations.
2️⃣ Simplification Matters: Many attendees shared that while our features are powerful, they can sometimes feel overwhelming. This taught us the importance of streamlining processes and making things as user-friendly as possible.
3️⃣ Community Drives Innovation: We were reminded that collaboration and feedback are the lifeblood of innovation. Hearing how others solve problems inspired me to rethink how we approach challenges.

How We’ll Apply These Changes

  • Enhanced Communication Channels: We’re creating more opportunities for open dialogue with our users, including surveys, forums, and reaching out via phone calls. Some people are more old-school and despite being a tech company, we also believe that the human voice is what we are missing. Some of you may have gotten calls from us in the past couple of weeks to get more feedback about WpStream.
  • Streamlining Our Tools: Simplifying workflows and improving documentation will be top priorities in the coming months.
  • Focus on Education: Expect more tutorials and guides to help users maximize the potential of our tools.

Talking with the WordPress community made me realize that while our tools are powerful, we need to do a better job teaching users how to unlock their full potential. Clear guides, hands-on tutorials, and real-world examples can make a huge difference. This is why moving forward, our posts on social media will talk more about use cases and how our loyal customers have been using WpStream to share their content, stories, and life.

WordCamp Romania wasn’t just an event; it was a wake-up call and an opportunity to grow. We’re grateful to everyone who shared their insights and feedback. Together, we’ll make WordPress an even better platform for creativity and growth. 💡

I also have a special shoutout for two of the speakers at WordCamp Romania – Alexandra Badita and Aleksandar Savkovic

Alexandra’s talk highlighted the importance of Storytelling when it comes to sharing your brand. While her talk specifically addressed women in business, it also encouraged everyone at the event to reconsider the way we share our lives. More specifically;

“There’s nothing wrong with sharing your story. You are not bragging by talking about your products, services, or life experiences that led you to this point.”

With that quote, I was encouraged to write this post in a way I have never done before. Highlighting my experience and what I learned. Using her advice, I was able to come back to my team and brainstorm through different ways that 2025 WpStream will be be different than 2024 WpStream 🙂

Aleksandar’s talk was about how Community Marketers and Managers hate each other. That’s extreme isn’t it? That was my first thought. However, I quickly realized that I spend more time talking to our WpStream community than I do with my team. This is something that I am sure that many of us remote folks that are customer-facing can relate to.

For this reason, I can understand why all the time I have spent with the WpStream community will put me at odds with someone who only focuses on marketing a product or service without necessarily taking the customer’s vision into account. I know what you’re thinking. NOT ALL MARKETERS ARE LIKE THIS. No one said we were. It’s just that the line gets blurry sometimes and we forget that without our community, WpStream wouldn’t exist!

I also learned that we Balkan folks come off as more aggressive in business. Is that true or are we just straightforward? I dare you to argue with me.~

What are some changes you’d love to see from us?
