How to Create a Pay-Per-View Sports Streaming Website

Check the rights. Sell the game. Go live at kickoff.

Build a sports streaming website on WordPress. You can sell one game or a season pass. Keep the stream available for paying fans. First, check who holds the rights.

How it runs

From fixture list to final whistle

01 · Rights

Ask who can say yes

Your league, the host school, the venue, music rights holders, and parents can all say no. Get written permission from each before the season starts.

02 · Tickets

Sell a game or a season

Create a Pay-Per-View channel for each game, or offer a season pass. Fans can pay through your WooCommerce checkout.

03 · Kickoff

Go live, then keep the replay

Send the camera feed to the channel at kickoff. After the game, the same stream can serve as a replay for everyone who bought access.

Your Club, Your Site

Fans watch the game on your website

Fans buy access through WooCommerce with Stripe or PayPal and watch on your WordPress page. Lock to Website prevents embeds on other sites.

How to Make a Sports Streaming Website

To create a sports streaming site, install the WpStream plugin on WordPress. Add WooCommerce with Stripe or PayPal for checkout.

Create a Pay-Per-View channel for each game or a season pass subscription. Send the camera feed from a browser, Larix, or OBS.

Check league, venue, and consent rules before the first game.

WpStream doesn’t handle payments. Your WooCommerce checkout does, keeping all but the gateway fees.

Add WpStream and WooCommerce

Start with your club's WordPress site. Install the WpStream plugin, then add WooCommerce, which is free. Each game is a product.

Create a Pay-Per-View channel per game

A Pay-Per-View channel shows an "Add to Cart" button until the fan buys it. One purchase covers all broadcasts on that channel, so sell each game separately.

Connect Stripe or PayPal

In WooCommerce, go to Settings, then Payments. Find Stripe and click Manage. PayPal adds payment options like Venmo and Pay Later. Each processor has its own fees.

Go live

Send the feed to the channel

Go live from a browser, Larix on a phone, or from OBS with the channel's server URL and stream key. Fans access the game from their confirmation email or My Orders.

Six Things to Know for Match Day

Club crest on the player

Add your logo once; it shows on live and replay players. You can move it during the game without interrupting the stream.

Auto TURN ON

Save the server and stream key in OBS or Larix. Start the next game from the app without turning the channel on manually.

Test streams count

A camera test before kickoff uses broadcast hours, as the channel is on. Keep it short.

One ticket per fan

Hide the Add to Cart button once a fan buys the game, so no one pays twice.

Halftime

The channel turns off after 20 minutes of no broadcast. Keep a holding image on air to record as one video.

When hours run out

You can keep streaming, but the number of viewers may be capped until you top up or upgrade.

Broadcast Rights

Who has to say yes before you stream a game?

Running the club doesn’t mean you hold the streaming rights. Six parties can say no: the league, the school association, the host school, the venue, music rights holders, and those on camera. A yes from one doesn’t cover the others.

The league sets the notice. ECB guidance asks for permission "at least 48 hours in advance". The GAA's 2026 policy wants requests "at least 6 weeks prior".

The table below is a starting checklist, not legal advice: your league's, association's and venue's current rules bind you.

Who to askWhat they may controlWhere to check
Who to ask: League or governing bodyWhat they may control: Whether club games may be streamed, notice periods, excluded competitions, sponsor and pricing rules, replay copiesWhere to check: Little League: no digital copies for retail distribution; GAA Streaming Policy 2026: 6 weeks, signed licence; ECB guidance: 48 hours
Who to ask: School association and its streaming partnerWhat they may control: Postseason and tournament streams, rights fees, first rights of a contracted networkWhere to check: GHSA: a streaming partner holds "exclusive rights" to postseason, rights fee to the host school; UHSAA: postseason rights "belong to the UHSAA and its partners"; WIAA: its streaming partner owns pre-State Tournament streaming rights
Who to ask: Home or host school, home clubWhat they may control: Regular-season home games; can refuse an outletWhere to check: UHSAA: rights "held by the home/host school", ask the athletic director, schools "may refuse"; GHSA: "with approval of the host home school"; ECB: both teams, umpires and scorers
Who to ask: Venue or facility ownerWhat they may control: Filming in the building, broadcast rights, camera spots, an existing streaming contractWhere to check: Falkirk Council hire terms, clause 54: no broadcasting rights "without prior written consent"; Maple Grove ice arena agreement (2022), an example of an exclusive streaming contract; Little League: notify the property owner
Who to ask: Music rights holdersWhat they may control: Music from the PA or pep band heard on the stream; sync rights for the replayWhere to check: ASCAP: your own platform needs its licence; MPA: a sync licence for recordings; NFHS: audio silenced, "No permissions needed"; UK: TheMusicLicence covers music in the venue
Who to ask: Players, parents and officialsWhat they may control: Consent to appear; parental consent for under-18sWhere to check: Basketball England: without one person's consent, "the live stream must not go ahead"; CPSU; FA Guidance Note 8.3 (July 2020); Little League release and waiver form

One Game, a Whole Season,
or a Tournament Day

A ticket for one game

One Pay-Per-View channel for each game. One purchase covers all later broadcasts on that channel.

Supporters watching a match on a laptop

A season pass

Offer a subscription product for season ticket holders. Use the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension, which costs $279 for a one-year plan.

Football match ticket with referee equipment

A tournament day

Each court or pitch runs on its own channel. Every channel counts broadcast hours.

Pricing Plans

Size broadcast, viewer and recording hours on a month of fixtures, not one game.

Lite

Lite: $24 a month or $190 a year. Offers 100 broadcast hours and 500 viewer hours monthly.

Plus

Plus: $59 a month or $490 a year. Offers 250 broadcast hours and 2,000 viewer hours monthly.

The trial

For a tournament day, one-time plans carry hours that "do not expire". Cost rises in plan steps as the crowd at home grows. Prices as of September 2026.

Keep the Game for Fans Who Paid

On your sports streaming site, WpStream checks that fans are logged in and have a completed order for access. A shared link lands on a locked player.

Logged-in Buyers Only

The player opens only for accounts with completed orders. Fans access through their confirmation email or My Orders.

Lock to Website

Turn it on so the stream shows only on your own site. Fans can share the link, but no one can embed it elsewhere.

Encryption

Encryption is optional. The docs say it "may lead to reduced website performance and may not work on some browsers". It's worth it for paid events, less so for free youth games.

Password Pages and Members-Only Games

For a booster club members' stream, add a free channel on a password-protected page. For passwords, see our guide to password-protected live streaming.

What Goes to the Ground on Game Day

A phone is enough for a first season. Camera choice and encoder settings have their guides.

Go Live from a Phone or Tablet

You can go live from a browser or use Larix Broadcaster, a free app.

A Laptop Running OBS

OBS is free and supports any connected camera. Paste in the channel's server URL and stream key.

Score on Screen

vMix has built-in scoreboard templates. OBS can show a web page over the picture.

Commentary and PA

Your mic can pick up the PA and band. A stream without music needs no permissions.

A spot outside the fence

Little League says a camera can't sit inside the facility's fence or on the field of play. ECB guidance: check ground regulations and ask the umpires before siting cameras.

Signs at the gate

Little League asks for signs that the game is streamed and an announcement over the PA, so fans, players and parents get notice.

After the Final Whistle

Turn the game into the replay

Turn on "record live stream" before starting the channel. After the game, change it from Live stream to Video on Demand and select the recording.

Everyone who bought the game keeps access without paying again. For youth games, decide on recording beforehand.

Honest Fit

When is the school network the better choice?

If a partner already holds the rights to the games, use that partner. In Georgia a streaming partner holds postseason rights, and in Wisconsin pre-State Tournament rights.

Where a partner handles the setup, follow its process. A GAA club streams through a signed licence with an approved Licensee.

Your own sports streaming website suits the games you control: regular-season home games where the host school or club has the rights, league fixtures outside partner deals, tournaments you run, and replays you may keep.

Before Kickoff: Nine Checks

Run all nine checks before the season’s first home game on your sports streaming website.

Repeat checks 06 to 09 before every kickoff, and checks 01 and 02 if your league requires notice for each match.

Give this to your match-day volunteer

01

League or association approval in writing, with notice: 48 hours for ECB cricket, 6 weeks for the GAA.

02

Host school or club agreement, and also from the away side if needed, as per ECB rules.

03

Venue hire terms checked, or inform the property owner. Falkirk’s clause 54 prevents broadcasting rights without written consent.

04

Consent from every player on camera, and parents for under-18s. Under Basketball England guidance, one refusal stops the live stream.

05

PA music off during the stream, or a public performance licence that covers streaming on your own site.

06

Recording settings decided and set in Channel Settings before the channel goes live. The record setting can’t change while it runs.

07

Lock to Website on, and make a test purchase using a non-admin account, as a fan would.

08

Signs at the gate and a PA announcement that the game is being streamed, as Little League advises.

09

Keep the channel live through halftime. After the final whistle, switch the product to Video on Demand for the replay.

Nine checks done. Kick off.

Questions clubs ask

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. On a sports streaming website built with WpStream, each Pay-Per-View channel is a WooCommerce product. Fans pay by Stripe or PayPal at your checkout, with no revenue share.

Some leagues set conditions: Little League allows paid access within its rules, and the GAA only allows it within its streaming licence.

You can sell both on your sports streaming website.

On WpStream, a single game is its own channel and product, as one purchase covers every later broadcast on a channel.

A season pass is a subscription with the season’s channels attached. It requires WooCommerce Subscriptions, listed on woocommerce.com at $279 for the 1-year plan.

A shared link opens a locked player on your sports streaming website. WpStream checks for a logged-in buyer with a completed order.

Lock to Website stops anyone embedding the stream elsewhere. Encryption is optional, though it may affect performance. There’s no documented per-ticket device limit.

Often yes, in writing. ECB guidance asks for 48 hours’ notice, the GAA wants 6 weeks and a signed licence, and Little League allows self-produced streams under its rules.

For school games, ask the host school about regular-season rights and the association about postseason rights. WpStream doesn’t clear rights, and this isn’t legal advice.

Example: one home game a week, 2.5 channel hours each, 100 fans watching 2 hours.

That’s about 10 broadcast and 800 viewer hours a month, plus 2.5 recording hours for each game you keep: WpStream Plus is $59 a month.

At 300 fans, it’s 2,400 viewer hours, which needs Pro. Prices as of September 2026.

For regular-season home games, often yes: Utah gives those rights to the home or host school, and Georgia requires the host school’s approval.

Postseason rights belong to the association and its streaming partner, as in Georgia and Wisconsin.

Ask your athletic director first, then use WpStream to stream the games you control on the school’s own sports streaming website.

For a club, a stream on its own site needs a public performance licence, unlike YouTube or Facebook, which ASCAP says are already licensed.

For a streamed school game, the NFHS states its agreement with ASCAP and BMI’s school licence covers the music. A replay with music also needs sync rights (MPA).

Silencing the music avoids both issues, per the NFHS.

In the UK, TheMusicLicence covers music in the venue; ask PPL PRS about a stream on your WpStream site.

Under Basketball England guidance, yes: consent from both the parent or carer and the child is needed. Without one person’s consent, the live stream cannot go ahead. Consent lasts one year.

CPSU also advises against recording livestreams of children, so set WpStream’s recording option according to what parents agreed.
