Wix Live Stream: A Practical Guide

Add the app. Create your channel. Go live on your Wix site.

How it runs

From the App Market to your first broadcast

01 · Install

Add the app from the App Market

Get WpStream Live & Video from the Wix App Market. A player widget will appear on your site, and your WpStream account is created automatically—no separate sign-up needed.

02 · Channel

Create a channel inside Wix

Set up a channel or upload a video in your Wix dashboard. Then select it in the widget's Settings panel.

03 · Go Live

Go live from the browser or OBS

Once you publish the page, you can broadcast from your browser using a camera and mic. Or, stream from OBS using the RTMP server and stream key.

Inside Your Wix Dashboard

Manage your channels and videos without leaving Wix.

Create channels, upload videos and preview your content from the Wix dashboard. When you are ready, go live from the same screen.

What the WpStream App Adds to Your Wix Site

Video Player Pro, available on the Wix App Market, does not support live channels.

WpStream Live & Video adds a Wix video player for live channels: a widget for your page, a Settings panel to choose what plays, and a dashboard to manage your channels—all inside Wix.

The WpStream Player Widget

When you install the app, a WpStream Player widget is added to your site. To place a player on another page, drag another copy from Add Elements in the Wix editor.

The widget fits the width of its section and maintains a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Pick a Channel or Video in Settings

Select the widget and open Settings. The Live Channel and VOD tabs show your channels and videos. Click one to play it. Refresh to reload the list.

Creating a new channel or video opens the app's dashboard in a new tab, which updates when you return.

An advanced Paste a Content ID field serves as a fallback.

Channels and Videos on One Dashboard Page

In the app's page in your Wix dashboard, you can create channels, upload videos, preview, search, and delete.

You must stop a live channel before deleting it, and the app will always ask for confirmation.

Each channel tile shows its status: On Air, Starting, Paused, or Off Air. This status is for you, not your visitors.

Go Live from the Browser or an Encoder

Click Go Live on a channel and select one. From your browser, use a camera and mic without extra software. With an external encoder, push from OBS, vMix, or a hardware encoder.

The encoder option displays the RTMP server and stream key, each with a copy button ready for OBS.

App Market

Add WpStream Live & Video

Find the app on the Wix App Market and add it to your site. The player widget is automatically placed, creating a WpStream account for your Wix site.

You'll start on the free Starter plan.

Create a channel

On the app's dashboard page, give your channel a title. Switch on Record this stream if you want a replay. Display viewer count and Autoplay are already on.

Go Live

Broadcast from the browser or OBS

Open Go Live on the channel. Choose your browser (camera and mic) or an external encoder: copy the RTMP server and stream key into OBS or vMix and start streaming.

Before Your First Wix Live Stream

Recording Is Your Choice

Record this stream is off by default. Turn it on for the channel before going live if you want a replay.

Changing It Resets the Channel

Switching recording on or off resets the channel. The app warns that you'll need to reconfigure OBS, and a browser broadcast must restart.

Autoplay Starts Muted

With Autoplay on, the player starts muted so browsers allow it to play. Visitors can turn the sound on when they wish.

Swap Without Re-Embedding

Select another channel or video in the Settings panel, and the same widget will play it. No need to copy or paste.

Watch Your Hours

The Your Plan card shows broadcast, viewer, and recording hours used, helping you track your free Starter plan.

Cancel Through Wix

Cancel under Premium Subscriptions in your Wix account: Cancel App, then Cancel auto-renew. The plan remains active until the billing cycle ends.

Replays and Uploads

Keep the Replay on the Same Wix Page

Turn on Record this stream before your Wix live stream, and the broadcast saves as a video on your account.

Recorded videos use your WpStream recording hours, not your Wix media storage.

If the video already exists, upload it from your computer on the dashboard page and follow the progress bar.

Then pick it on the VOD tab, in the same widget or a second one under the live player.

Wix Video Live

Is Wix Video Live Enough for Your Stream?

Start with what Wix offers.

Wix Video is built-in, free to start, and can charge: a live stream can be paid (buy or rent), and channels can be sold as subscriptions through Pricing Plans.

For short streams from OBS, that may be all you need.

Limitations

One stream runs up to 10 minutes on free Wix Video and up to 3 hours on a Premium plan.

Live streaming from the Wix mobile app is no longer available.

You can use any encoder that supports custom keys, but Wix only officially supports OBS Studio.

Other encoders might not connect, and the stream key resets every hour, so yesterday's key in OBS won't work today.

Options like autoplay and viewer count are set per channel on the app's dashboard.

The same player also works on Shopify and Astro sites.

16:9 at Any Width

The player fills its section and maintains a widescreen picture.

Fullscreen

Visitors can open the broadcast full screen for a service, match, or class.

Picture-in-Picture

Visitors can keep the broadcast in a small floating window while browsing your site.

Autoplay, Muted

On by default. The player starts muted, allowing visitors to turn on the sound.

Viewer Count

On by default and set per channel. Display viewer count shows the number of concurrent viewers.

Loads when needed

The player loads only when visitors scroll to it on your page.

Plus

Plus: 250 broadcast and 2,000 viewer hours a month, 15 live channels, 1,000 viewers.

The trial

Paid or Private Viewing

How Do You Charge for Access on Wix?

You have two systems for payments. You pay WpStream through Wix app billing. If you charge visitors, they pay you through Wix.

The WpStream player has no paywall, so restrict the Wix page it sits on.

You need the Pricing Plans app, a Members Area, and a site capable of processing payments.

For free but private viewing, use a password-protected page; these pages do not appear in search results.

What Does Not Work on Wix Today?

It's better to know before you install. The WpStream app on Wix does not currently support:

  • Paywalls, pay-per-view, or tickets inside the player. Use Wix Pricing Plans instead.
  • Chat, comments, and polls aren't available.
  • Selling products during a broadcast is not possible.
  • No live badge for visitors. On Air, Paused, and Off Air are visible only on your dashboard.
  • Analytics in Wix stop at the plan meters. The WpStream Dashboard button directs you to wpstream.net for more.
  • No broadcasting from a mobile app. Go live from a computer browser or encoder only.
  • No carry-over: a Wix plan is tied to one Wix site and cannot be transferred to a WordPress WpStream account.

Want a replay? Turn on recording. Want to charge? Make the page members-only in Wix.

Wix FAQ

Wix live streaming questions

Add WpStream Live & Video from the Wix App Market. Create a channel, select it in the widget’s Settings panel, publish the page, and go live from your browser or OBS.

Wix Video Live is the built-in option. It requires an encoder, and OBS is the only one Wix officially supports.

With Wix Video, you can stream for up to 10 minutes on the free plan and up to 3 hours on a Premium plan, according to the Wix Help Center.

For the WpStream app, there’s no documented per-stream time limit. Instead, plans count broadcast hours, so a 4-hour session counts as 4 broadcast hours.

You need an encoder for Wix Video. You can use any encoder that supports custom keys, but only OBS Studio is officially supported by Wix. Other encoders may not connect.

The WpStream app allows you to go live directly from your browser using your camera and mic, with no extra software needed.

Wix no longer supports live streaming from its mobile app. The WpStream app also lacks a mobile broadcasting feature.

You can go live from a computer browser using your camera and mic or send the broadcast from an encoder like OBS, vMix, or a hardware box.

Yes, you can use Wix’s tools. Wix Video allows charging through buy, rent, or channel subscriptions.

The WpStream player doesn’t have a paywall, so you can place it on a members-only page linked to Wix Pricing Plans. You need a Members Area and a Wix plan that accepts payments.

For free but private viewing, a password-protected page is an option.

With Wix Video, every live stream is saved to your Video Library and counts towards your media storage. For the WpStream app, recording only occurs if “Record this stream” is enabled for that channel.

Replays use recording hours, which you can manage on the VOD tab of the widget’s Settings panel.

WpStream plans are measured in hours: broadcast hours for live time, viewer hours for total watch time, and recording hours for saved videos.

The free Starter plan includes 20 broadcast hours, 100 viewer hours, 1 live channel, and 50 viewers.

Paid plans are billed through your Wix account. Check the WpStream Live & Video listing for details.

Yes, Wix’s Single Video Player supports links from YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Dailymotion, or Twitch.

However, there are two limitations: YouTube, Vimeo, and Facebook videos can’t be sold, and with a pricing plan on a Wix Video channel, they remain visible to all visitors.

For a Wix live stream you broadcast yourself, the WpStream widget plays your channel directly on your page.
