How do you stream to multiple platforms with OBS?

As of OBS Studio 32.2.1, released 24 July 2026, OBS still cannot push one broadcast to two different services on its own. Nothing in the release notes since this article first ran adds multi-destination output. To reach Twitch and YouTube at the same time, you still need a plugin or a cloud service.
Two newer OBS features get mistaken for this. Multitrack Video, added in OBS Studio 30.2 in July 2024 and called Enhanced Broadcasting on Twitch, sends several quality tiers of the same stream to a single destination, so viewers on weak connections get a version that fits. One service, several bitrates. Dual Output runs a horizontal canvas and a vertical canvas side by side, so the same content goes out in two shapes, and Twitch’s dual-format delivery is still an approval-gated open beta. Neither one is “Twitch and YouTube at once.”
Aitum Multistream is the one most people install now. It’s free, needs OBS 30.0.0 or newer, runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and sits at version 1.0.8 with 342,768 downloads and a last update of 18 May 2026. The honest part: it rates 3.00 out of 5 on that listing across only 10 ratings, and reviewers report encoder overload, plus having to sign out and back in to switch which platform is primary. Those are individual user reports, not documented behavior.
sorayuki’s obs-multi-rtmp, the plugin this guide has pointed at since 2023, is not dead: stable v0.7.3.2 shipped in October 2025, a v0.7.4 pre-release followed in March 2026, and it rates 4.10 out of 5 across 82 ratings. But two issues against OBS 32.0.4 are open and unresolved on its GitHub repo: #571 reports streaming bandwidth collapsing to a tenth after install, and #573 is a batch of crash reports filed by a member of the OBS Project team. The forum listing also still carries a stale “2020-05-17” version label, so download from GitHub and take the build that matches your OBS major version.
- Download the build matching your installed OBS major version.
- Run the installer, then restart OBS Studio.
- Add one output per platform, then paste in its RTMP server URL and stream key.
Then there’s the upload bill. A local plugin opens a full separate connection per destination, and sharing the encoder saves CPU, not bytes. YouTube’s own bitrate table recommends 12 Mbps for 1080p60 in H.264, and Twitch’s non-partner cap is widely cited at 6 Mbps. That’s 18 Mbps of video before audio, and you want 1.3 to 1.5 times headroom on top, so call it 24 to 27 Mbps of sustained upload for two platforms. RTMP runs over TCP, which means a saturated uplink degrades every destination at once instead of dropping one cleanly. That’s the honest reading of the bug reports above: on a marginal connection, the second push is what breaks the first.
Method 2: Using a dedicated multistreaming tool
The other route is to stop copying the stream yourself and let a cloud service do it. Restream is the tool this tutorial uses, and it plugs into OBS from the Stream settings.
The architecture is the whole argument. You send one stream up, and the service fans it out to every destination on its own infrastructure. Restream’s pricing FAQ says you need no additional bandwidth even at 30 destinations, and Streamlabs describes the identical mechanism for its own service. On a normal home connection, that’s the deciding factor. The cost: your video passes through a third party, and the free plan is capped at two channels and carries Restream branding.
One policy note, and read it as secondhand. Twitch’s own Simulcasting Guidelines page renders in JavaScript and can’t be quoted directly, so everything here comes from published summaries of it rather than from Twitch. Those summaries agree that Twitch lifted its simulcasting exclusivity ban around October 2023, putting Twitch alongside YouTube within the rules for most streamers, and they agree on what stayed: don’t point viewers off Twitch from inside the stream, and anyone on an individual exclusivity deal still can’t simulcast. Read the guidelines yourself before you rely on any of it.
